Dealing Dogs Documentary
An animal rights outfit, Last Chance for Animals, outraged that 42,000 dogs are sold to vet schools and research labs by vile kennel keepers, sets out on one of the most notorious: Martin Creek Kennel in Arkansas. It sent in investigator "Pete" with a hidden camera for six months. He worked for the owners and collected his sickening images
and commentated on the atrocities as he went.  Many of the dogs that ended up at this kennel had been stolen from their own backyards and sold. Not just from Arkansas but in areas around St. Louis Mo and all throughout the south.

Sure there could be some process to get certified, but any lazy, canine with a good listening ear could make the cut. What a brilliant accomplishment!

How to Protect your Pet from Heat Stroke

BLOAT

This is a real combination of symptoms that spells out EMERGENCY. These are the classic symptoms of a condition referred to as "bloat" - a dog that is pacing, restless and has unproductive attempts to vomit.

This is a common problem in large breed deep-chested dogs but can also occur in smaller dogs.

Basically what happens is this - the stomach twists causing the blood supply to the stomach to be compromised then leads to tissue death. As tissues are damaged, toxins are released and a sequence of events occurs that if left untreated, leads to death.

If you ever notice these symptoms in your dog, call your local veterinarian or emergency clinic as soon as possible.

This is a condition that is fairly common and often occurs in the evening or nighttime hours. It is also a very expensive condition to treat.  READ MORE...
 
            GOT FLEAS?
Place a white baking dish half full of water with a couple drops of Lemon Joy dishwashing liquid in the center of the room with a small lamp next to it.  Turn off all other lights and go to bed.  When you wake up in the morning all the fleas will be in the baking dish! For a bad infestation treat each room twice.
 

Dealing with Excessive Barking

The first step to stopping barking is to understand why it is happening. Dogs bark for all kinds of reasons, including anxiety, boredom and/or loneliness. Sometimes they bark just because it feels good.  Luckily, most dogs will respond to one or other intervention to curtail their barking. Whether you simply bring an outdoor dog inside or take the time to apply behavior-modification techniques, you can cause a dog to be less of a nuisance and to be more socially acceptable.


Removing Skunk Odor

No need for the tomato juice. Use a mixture of 10 parts hydrogen peroxide to 1 part baking soda. Add a dash of degreasing dishwashing soap and pour into a spray bottle. Spray liberally over dry coat and allow to air dry. Avoid eyes. Works on other objects, too!

Many people put more thought into purchasing a new pair of shoes than they do into choosing a German Shepherd who will share their home for a decade or more. We do DNA Profiles to offer integrity beyond question, adding value to our breeding program that guarantees continuity from one generation to the next.  Puppies are whelped and raised in the house.  We also do a slow weaning so the puppies stay with their mothers and siblings for 5 to 6 weeks or longer (it's up to the  mom how long she wants to be with them).   Eliminating the devastating stress to the puppies and their mother of puppies pulled from their mothers at 4 weeks like other breeders do.  This kind of weaning makes for very happy healthy well adjusted puppies and mothers.  Our puppies play with our cats & live in an active home with all the sounds of a busy day (TV, Dishwasher, clanging of pans, people coming and going, lots of human interaction 24/7).  We bathe each puppy weekly, clean ears & clip their nails.  Puppies are always bathed before going into their new homes and of course have been wormed and are current on their vaccinations.   Just remember, we are always there for any questions you have regarding your new puppy.  Our commitment to you doesn't end with the sale.

We are breeders of uncompromised excellence using only the best Imported VA/V West German bloodlines from Germany and breeding according to the World Standard (Since 1965 every dog  in these pedigrees has been certified free of hip/Elbow dysplasia).  Our breeding program consists of 9 adults, 2 titled males and 7 titled females.  We love our dogs and are aware of the great sacrifice they make by being in a breeding program.  As breeding dogs with full hormones they have a greater chance of cancer of the reproductive organs.  Therefore they will be spayed and neutered once retired from breeding.  These wonderful dogs are my family.  We are proud to offer these outstanding  bloodlines in the puppies of these superb dogs to you & your family.  Generally we have not only the parents on premise but in some cases some grandparents too.

 German Shepherds that are used for breeding by Haus Merkel are selected to produce maximum health, structure, temperament, trainability, longevity and size in their puppies.  As a responsible German Shepherd Breeder we are constantly trying to improve the breed with every breeding.   We extensively study the pedigrees, structure and the genetics of each German Shepherd mother and father prior to breeding.  Nothing is left to chance from jet black eyes, rich pigment and red color to tight feet, large bone and big strong heads and muzzels.  We also never forget breeding for outstanding trainability, endurance and intelligence, mental soundness,  superb and predictable temperament creating the ideal German Shepherd for you and your family.  Please note:  Due to the high cost of Importing/Titling/Hip and Elbow certifications of our young adults in Germany & paying top dollar for only the best Imported titled females that we use for our breeding program  we have no puppies  priced under $2000.   

Deposits:  The 'CHOICE' category is the most popular.  Please get your deposit (Half the purchase price) in early for the "Choice" puppies; There are a limited amount of puppies sold as 'CHOICE'.  Your reservation for a 'CHOICE' puppy will be accepted in the order the deposit is received (this is also the same process for all the other categories).   Deposits are non refundable.   *'Choice' puppies are not always available in every litter and not every female conceives, therefore deposits may be moved to the next available litter(s).

Puppies are chosen for the categories below according to the German Conformation Ideal/Standard.  While most people do not want a show dog, I will tell you why correct show dog structure is so important for your dog to have and for you to be looking for.
 
The German Shepherd Dog was created to be a herding dog and is in the 'herding group'.  As a dog bred to trot effortlessly in work...balance, forehand and rear drive is desired and the Standard dictates it.  In the mechanics of movement the legs must move cleanly not putting pressure or wear and tear on the joints.   Therefore, correct structure will help when your dog reaches old age; joints should still be stable and free moving and arthritis should be to a minimum. Our German Shepherds are not designed to be overweight and unfit; they are actually genetically programmed to be lean, muscular and agile with potential for extreme longevity.
